Amy E. Burroughs

Amy Burroughs has practiced with Costner Greene in Maryville, Tennessee, since 2000. Prior to joining Costner Greene, she practiced at Bass, Berry and Sims in Nashville, Tennessee, in the area of litigation. Amy focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning and probate, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives, conservatorships, and guardianships. Amy particularly enjoys working with clients to help them develop estate plans tailored to their individual needs. She has counseled and represented numerous clients in conservatorship matters and guardianship matters to help them protect the interests of their disabled or minor family members. She also enjoys helping clients navigate the process of administering the probate estates of their loved ones. Amy also practices in the area of general civil litigation, and she serves as the Firm Administrator.
Amy was born in Washington, D.C. in 1973, but she has called East Tennessee home for the majority of her life. She received a B.S. in Education from Florida State University in 1994, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors. She received her J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1998, where she graduated Cum Laude. While in law school, Amy served as a Research Editor on the University of Tennessee Law Review. Her published works include (Amy L. Eckert) Narrow Interpretation of “Use of a Firearm,” Case Note: Criminal Law, 18 U.S.C. 924(c), 64 Tenn. L. Rev. 515 (1997). She also graduated Order of the Barristers, and she received the McClung Medal for excellence in trial advocacy. While attending law school, Amy clerked for the Tennessee Attorney General’s office in Nashville, Tennessee.
Amy was admitted to the Tennessee Supreme Court in 1998. She also is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Amy is a member of the Blount County Bar Association, where she previously held the offices of Secretary and Vice President.
